Late Giudice goal lifts Brockport past Plattsburgh, 11-10

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – With less than five second to play, a Jake Giudice goal lifted The College at Brockport men's lacrosse team over Plattsburgh in State University of New York Athletic Conference play on Saturday, 11-10.

The Golden Eagles improve to 8-2 on the season and 1-1 in conference play, while the Cardinals fall to 4-6 and 0-1 in league action.

The Green and Gold opened scoring when Marcus Palvino worked in an unassisted goal at the 10:09 mark to post the early 1-0 lead. After a Plattsburgh goal knotted things back up, a Brendan Fitzgerald score regained the Brockport advantage with 5:45 to play in the first.

With five seconds remaining in the opening period, Palvino found the back of the cage for his second score of the day, giving Brockport the 3-2 edge heading into the second period.

Brockport saw the Cardinals open the quarter with a goal, but a hot Palvino worked in a shot to lift the Golden Eagles to a 4-2 lead with 7:32 to play in the half. The Green and Gold offense continued to operate like a well-oiled machine, when Giudice buried a Palvino set up to post a 5-2 lead. The two teams would trade scores to end the half, with Palvino netting his fourth goal of the contest to take a 6-3 lead into the break.

In the third period, Brockport saw Plattsburgh score three straight goals, evening the count at 6-6.

The start of the fourth quarter saw the Green and Gold trail for the first time in the contest, as the Cardinals netted the first goal of the period. The scoring was not over however, as Michael Gallagher netted a goal to even the count at 7-7 with 11:20 to play.

The Golden Eagles saw Plattsburgh answer in the form of back-to-back goals, but Brockport fought for the lead with three straight scores, with two off the stick of John Countryman, and a third score at the 4:03 mark from Fitzgerald to take a slim 10-9 edge.

After the Cardinals sent in the equalizer with just over a minute to play, Brockport came up big when Fitzgerald found the back of the cage with five ticks on the clock, holding on for the narrow 11-10 win.

The Green and Gold fired off 30 shots on the day, picking up 33 ground balls. Brockport had 12 face off wins and forced 14 Cardinal turnovers.

Colin Blind accounted for three caused turnovers for the Green and Gold, with Steven Gurin picking up a pair of CT's. Blind also picked up a team high seven ground balls, with Zack Cook snagging six GB's and Gurin adding five.

Conor Nowak stood tall in the cage for all 60 minutes of play for the Golden Eagles, earning the win and picking up three saves on the day.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on April 13 when they host SUNY Geneseo at Bob Boozer Field.
