GENESEO, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's soccer team secured a solid 1-0 win on Saturday in the Golden Challenge for a Pink Cure against Nazareth College.
The Green and Gold improve to 2-1-1 on the season while handing the Golden Flyers their first loss, who move to a record of 2-1-1 on the year.
The contest proved to be a heated battle, with both teams' defenses stepping up to hold the other scoreless through the first half.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles broke the scoring silence, when
Stefanie Drago wove through traffic to chip a left-footed shot over the keeper and inside the left post for the one-nil lead in the 73rd minute.
The Golden Eagle defense came up big, as two good looks from Nazareth in the waning minutes could have been a cause for concern, but the Brockport net minder, Daniel Ogrodowski, came up with a pair of big stops to seal the deal at 1-0.
"It was a great all around effort and we have to give special credit to Daniel Ogrodowski, who picked up her third shutout of the season," said head coach
Mike Idland. "Another notable performance came from
Jess Wilson, who made her first appearance starting this game and looking very comfortable playing in a really challenging game."
Brockport finished with 11 shots on the day, including five shots on goal, and were awarded eight corners in the contest.
Ogrodowski got the start and saw all 90 minutes of action in her third shut out of the year, while making eight saves in the contest.
"Today's game was a really solid response from our group to a questionable performance last game, which I think is a very good sign for our team this season," noted Idland. "Now we'll go back to work and try to generate another positive response.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Sept. 14 when they travel to D'Youville.
