Brockport Football: Game Three Preview

Game 3
The College at Brockport vs Hartwick College
Saturday, September 17, 2016 – 2 pm
Empire 8 Game
Wright Stadium – Oneonta, N.Y.

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport football team travels to Hartwick College this weekend for its first Empire 8 game of the season with kick off slated for 2 pm.

This week's matchup will mark the eighth meeting between Brockport and Hartwick, with Brockport holding a 4-2 advantage with one tie.  The Hawks won the first two meetings in 1947 and 1948, then the two teams held each other scoreless for a 0-0 tie in 1949.  Brockport won the next meeting in 1950, 6-0, but the teams wouldn't face off against until 2008 when both teams found a spot in the NCAA record book for most combined points in a game with 138.  Brockport won the ECAC Northwest Bowl Game, 70-68.

The Golden Eagles posted a decisive 49-0 win over Alfred State last weekend for their first win of the season.  The shutout marks the first time the Golden Eagles have held their opponent scoreless since Oct. 11, 2014 when Brockport defeated Frostburg State 46-0.  Brockport earned 21 first downs to Alfred's eight, while out rushing the Pioneers 207 to 57.  The Golden Eagles reached 408-yards of offense, averaging 6.5 yards per play.

Quarterback Joe Germinerio and running back Dan Andrews each scored three touchdowns while Ricky Lipani scored his first career touchdown after recovering a fumble.  Germinerio finished five-for-six for 38-yards while leading in rushing yards with 99-yards.  Andrews tabbed 22 carries for 80-yards and one TD, while leading receivers with 73-yards and two TDs.

Jason Howard led the Golden Eagle defense with six tackles, five of which were solo.  In addition to his first career interception, Howard also tabbed one tackle for a loss of six-yards.  Terry McDonald recorded five tackles including two for loss.  Daron Roper, Julius Brunson and Austin Dean each tabbed three tackles.  In the closing minute of the game, Dennis Thomas II forced a fumble at the Alfred 16-yard line that was recovered by Lipani and taken to the house for Brockport's final score.

The Hawks are entering the week with a record of 1-1 after dropping their season opener at Western Connecticut State then posting a win at UMASS Dartmouth.  This week marks the first home game of the season for Hartwick.

The Hawks have averaged 39.5 points per game thus far this season with senior running back Tito Pichardo leading the way with four touchdowns, all of which came against UMASS Dartmouth.  Junior wide receiver Koree Reed, senior quarterback Billy Pine and junior wide receiver Brad Garcia each have two touchdowns.  On the defense, senior Malik Wynter leads with 18 tackles followed by senior Matthew Ali with 16.

Following this week's game the Golden Eagles will return home on Sept. 24 to host St. John Fisher College in the 12th annual Courage Bowl to benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times.
