Weyant nets goal in 6-1 loss to New Paltz

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport field hockey team opened State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Friday, as they hosted SUNY New Paltz, falling 6-1.

The Golden Eagles fall to 1-6 on the season and have a 0-1 SUNYAC mark, while the Hawks move to 5-2 on the year and 2-0 in league play.

Brockport found themselves trailing early, as New Paltz found the back of the cage in the 2nd minute of play. The Green and Gold worked for the equalizer, and in the 13th minute Katherine Weyant finished a Christina Conkling set up to post a 1-1 score.

The Green and Gold struggled to hold off the Hawks, as they would score two straight to close the half, as they took a 3-1 deficit into the break.

In the second period, the Golden Eagles held the New Paltz offense silent for the opening 15 minutes of play. Brockport would let up a goal in the 50th minute, and a pair of scores in the 57th minute, as they eventually fell 6-1.

The Golden Eagles fired seven shots in the contest, with five on goal.

Olivia Landry got the start, seeing nearly 20 minutes of action and snagging four saves. Sarah Beam came in for over 50 minutes of play, and stopped 13 shots. The Golden Eagles combined for a season-high 21 saves in the contest.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when they continue league play as they host Oneonta at 11:30 a.m.
