BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's soccer team opened State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Friday, facing off against Fredonia and posting a 3-1 win.
The Golden Eagles are 4-1-1 on the year and 1-0 in the SUNYAC, while the Blue Devils are 2-5 on the season and 0-1 in league play.
The Green and Gold offense sparked early despite the wet weather, when
Maddie Siclare netted the first goal in the 36th minute to take a 1-0 lead, and score the lone goal of the first half. Brockport held the advantage in shots in the first frame, 16-8.
Senior
Chelsea Stahl scored her first goal of the season in the 52nd minute after dribbling past the Fredonia defense and tucking the ball in the right corner. Stahl would score again 15 minutes later after finding the back of the net on a cross pass from
Stefanie Drago.
The Blue Devils would get on the scoreboard in the 76th minute with a goal of their own, but it was too little too late as the Golden Eagles held on for the win.
Brockport outshot Fredonia 30-13, and held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-5. Drago led the offense with six shots while Stahl had five.
Christina Leonardo and
Chelsea Bowers each had four.
Daniele Ogrowdowski earned her fourth win of the season in net, playing all 90 minutes and making three saves. The senior now holds the most consecutive shutouts minutes for a Brockport goalkeeper since 2007 with 456 minutes.
"That was a really professional performance for us today," noted head coach
Mike Idland. "We were solid on both sides of the ball, probing and making chances from the beginning. I was especially impressed with, and happy for,
Chelsea Stahl, who really took over the game for us at times today."
The Golden Eagles will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday Sept. 24 when they host Buffalo State.
