BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Golden Eagles cruised to two straight sets victory on day two of SUNYAC Pool Play, moving their record to 15-2 overall (3-0 SUNYAC).
Game 1 vs. Oneonta: W, 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-18)
After falling behind 3-1 early in the first set, Brockport turned it on and did not trail for the remainder of the match, sweeping the three sets without allowing the Red Dragons to reach the 20-point plateau.
The first set was an easy victory, as Oneonta was held to 11 points overall. All six Brockport starters recorded a kill in the stanza, led by
Kelly Waters and Deanna Ortiz-Whittemore who combined for seven.
It was much of the same in the second, as
Jamie Schlesinger got the Golden Eagles out to a 5-0 lead from the service line, recording two of her three service aces during that run. The team was able to fend off a mini-run from Oneonta late in the set that got them to within six, and win the last three points of the second, winning by a final score of 25-16.
The third set was the most tightly contested, though the Golden Eagles never trailed, hopping out to a 5-1 lead early on behind kills from
Sam Holdredge and
Brianna Richardson. The Red Dragons fought back midway through the set to bring them within one at 18-17 before Waters recorded three more kills during a six-point Brockport run, all but sealing the deal. Ortiz-Whittemore gave Brockport the 25-18 set three victory when she put down her 10
th kill of the morning, securing the sweep of Oneonta.
Ortiz-Whittemore led the team with her 10 kills, and was followed by Waters and Holdredge who combined for 15 more. Waters ranked 10
th in the nation in hitting percentage coming into the weekend, and bettered that statistic today, swinging at a .444 clip.

Game 2 vs. Buffalo State: W, 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-18)
The Golden Eagles were able to test a few different lineups in their second matchup of the day, with 16 of the 17 players on the roster logging play time. The change in lineups did not affect the play however, as Brockport cruised to three easy wins, once again holding their opponents under 20 points in each set.
Some new faces got involved in the attacking category, as 12 different Golden Eagles recorded kills in this matchup, led by right-side hitters
Lindsey Luce and

Elena Grossman,
Emma Stoltz, and Holdredge combined for 11 kills, while Waters (2), Richardson (2),
Rachel Fiser,
Emily Flohr, Schlesinger,
