Brockport drops home opener to Fisher, 5-0

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport field hockey team dropped their home opener to St. John Fisher by a final score of 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The defeat brings their record to 1-1 on the season, while the Cardinal's improve to 1-1.
 
Fisher got off to a hot start in this contest, netting their first goal just 56 seconds into the first half when Gabby LaForce knocked in the rebound off a corner from Lauren Fazio. LaForce played a part in the Cardinal's second goal as well, this time feeding teammate Reghan Amoroso.
 
The Golden Eagle defense was lock-down for the remainder of the first stanza, keeping the gap at 2-0 going into halftime.
 
Olivia Landry and Sarah Beam shared the goaltender duties, combining for 16 saves on 21 shots on goal. The defense fended off 11 penalty corners, only allowing Fisher to score on one.
 
The best scoring chance for the Golden Eagles came at the 14:23 mark of the first half when Katherine Weyant took a hard shot on net that was saved by the Fisher goaltender.
 
Field hockey will be back in action at 12 p.m. on Sept. 10 when they travel to Poughkeepsie for a matchup against Vassar.
