ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In a non-conference women's soccer game at St. John Fisher College, The College at Brockport women's soccer team and the Cardinals ended in a 0-0 tie.
The Golden Eagles move to 1-1-1 on the season, while the Cardinals also record a 1-1-1 mark on the year.
It was a defensive stalemate for much of the contest, as neither team was able to break through for a score in regulation. The Golden Eagles came out firing early, with four shots in the opening 11 minutes, including two shots on goal from
Christina Leonardo and
Ashley Kabza.
The Green and Gold offense continued to work for opportunities, while the defense fought to hold off the Cardinal efforts.
Lauren Moore,
Stefanie Drago and
Kaitlyn Niedermeier all fired shots on target to no avail as the Fisher keeper was able to make stops to send the Golden Eagles into the half in a 0-0 tie.
In the second half, Brockport continued to look for offensive opportunities, with Niedermeir and
Chelsea Stahl firing shots on goal at the 60th and 63 minute marks respectively.
The Green and Gold defensive worked to keep the Fisher offense at bay, and blanked the Cardinals for the rest of the half. A last chance shot from
Maddie Siclare in the final minute of play wasn't enough, as the Golden Eagles headed into extra time.
In the first overtime, the Golden Eagles held Fisher to just two shots, and didn't allow a look in the final period of play. The Green and Gold saw four shots over the course of extra time, with one on goal from
Sabrina DeBellis in the 99th minute, but none found the back of the net as the contest ended in a 0-0 tie.
"I think we are all a little disappointed with how we started the game tonight," noted head coach
Mike Idland. "Ultimately we played pretty well and made plenty happen going forward, but because it took us until halftime to get on the front foot, we end up tying a game that we could have won. Hopefully we end up learning a lesson from the game that we can apply down the line later this season."
Daniele Ogrodowski got the start, and saw all 110 minutes in goal for Brockport, with a career-high nine saves on the day.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Sept. 10 in the Golden Challenge for a Pink Cure game against Nazareth College at host SUNY Geneseo.
