BUFFALO, N.Y. – Brockport women's basketball fell in a tightly contested game against conference foe Buffalo State on Tuesday by a score of 50-48. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 3-10 on the season and 2-4 in the SUNYAC conference.
Brockport controlled the game for nearly its entirety, holding a lead all the way from the 5:36 mark in the opening quarter until the fourth quarter when Buffalo State took the lead with 2:42 remaining. The Green and Gold had an opportunity to win the game trailing 50-48 with 4.9 seconds remaining, but a Schyler Laux three-point attempt at the buzzer fell just short, giving the Bengals the victory.
Faith Welch led the Brockport squad in the scoring department, registering 16 points on 8-of-15 shooting. The senior also added three rebounds and three steals in 35 minutes of play. Leading the team in the rebounding category was
Lindsay Johnson, who grabbed nine to go with her seven points and two steals.
Hannah Rehbaum filled out her stat column, recording six points while grabbing seven boards, two assists, a block and a steal. She was backed up by
Emily Nestler who was second on the team in scoring with nine points to go with five rebounds.
The Golden Eagles dominated Buffalo State in the paint, outscoring them 34-18 including 26-4 in the first half. They also bested the Bengals in points off turnovers (15-12), bench points (11-9), and fast break points (8-6).
Women's basketball will be in Fredonia at 7:30 on Friday before they get another crack at the Bengals on Saturday, this time at home in a game beginning at 7:30.
