BROCKPORT, N.Y.- The College at Brockport women's basketball team survived a late fourth quarter surge against SUNY Potsdam 56-52, on Saturday evening in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play. With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 5-12 on the year and 4-6 in SUNYAC play.

 The first quarter was a low scoring period with Potsdam jumping out to a 5-2 advantage. The Golden Eagles ended the period on a 10-5 run after
Schyler Laux connected on a three pointer with 1:13 left in the frame putting the green and gold up 12-10. Â
Brockport dominated the second quarter of play, outscoring the Bears 21-9.
Olivia LeBaron knocked down three triples including a pair on back-to-back processions, to give the Golden Eagles a 23-14 lead. Brockport closed the half on a 6-0 run, holding Potsdam scoreless in the last 1:56 of the stanza. Â
Emily Nestler owned the glass in the first half pulling down 10 rebounds, while scoring four points. The Golden Eagles forced 11 first half turnovers, while holding the Bears to only 22.2 percent shooting from the floor in the first 20 minutes of play. LeBaron recorded nine points in the half to lead Brockport. Â

The Golden Eagles took an eleven point lead into the final period of play. Brockport extended the lead to sixteen when Lindsey Johnson scored a layup, followed up by a
Faith Welch triple, making the score 49-33. Potsdam answered back, scoring 12 unanswered points to cut the lead to 49-45 with just over two minutes remaining. The two teams then exchanged three point baskets. The Bears had a chance to tie the game at the free throw line with six seconds left, but were unable to capitalize. With four seconds left LeBaron stole the inbounds pass to seal the victory.

LeBaron scored a game-high 16 points, including knocking down four three pointers. Welch went 3-for-7 from the floor scoring 10 points and dishing out four assists.
Hannah Rehbaum pulled down 10 boards, and scored five points. Nestler chipped with five points,including going 5-for-6 from the line and pulling down a team-high 12 rebounds.

Brockport forced 18 turnovers, turning them into 14 points, while holding Potsdam to only 28.6 percent shooting for the contest. The Green and Gold also held a 25-1 bench scoring advantage on the evening.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 24 when they host Fredonia to wrap up their home stretch. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
