BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport women's basketball team rolled to back-to-back double digit wins this weekend, defeating Hartwick College 55-43 on Saturday. The win brings the Golden Eagle record to 2-0 on the year and pushed the Hawks to an 0-3 start.
The Green and Gold faced a four point deficit early in the first quarter as the Hawks went on a 7-3 run to start the game. A
Schyler Laux three and layup by
Julianna Taylor quickly gave Brockport a lead they did not relinquish the rest of the contest. The Golden Eagles continued that momentum as they unleashed 22-unanswered points to take a commanding 25-7 lead with 5:18 left in the second-quarter. Senior
Lindsay Johnson and
Bailey Pratt contributed six points apiece on the run. A 6-0 run by the Hawks cut the deficit to 12 before heading to the break, but Brockport maintained a 25-13 advantage at halftime.
The Golden Eagles busted the game open to start the second half with three straight hits from beyond the arc, two by Pratt and one by Laux, to create the largest lead of the night, 34-13 with 7:55 on the clock in the third quarter. The Hawks inched back to cut the deficit to nine points in the fourth quarter, but back-to-back three pointers by
Julianna Taylor and Laux brought the lead back up to 15. The Green and Gold held back the advances of Hartwick and went on to win 55-43.
Johnson finished with her second straight double-double, which included 12 points and 10 rebounds. Pratt was the leading scorer with 16 points and snagged six boards with three assists. Schyler shot 4-of-7 from beyond the arc for 14 points.
