ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team (2-1) dropped their first game of the season Tuesday afternoon, falling to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) 82-54. The Tigers, who are the defending champions of the Liberty League, move to 3-0 on the young season.
Bailey Pratt was Brockport's leading scorer in the game, contributing 11 points while also recording two steals. The sophomore was able to draw fouls by driving her way into the paint on multiple occasions, and converted on her chances at the line, going 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
The Green and Gold got off to a good start in the first quarter as a
Lindsay Johnson layup followed by a pair of
Schyler Laux jumpers gave them a lead for much of the first five minutes. The Tigers caught fire from beyond the arc however, sinking five three pointers in the opening frame to open up a nine-point lead at the break that they would never relinquish.
Freshman
Zaria McCullough had the best scoring night of her young career, contributing nine points on four-of-nine shooting, which was good for second on the team. She was followed up by
Emily Nestler who chipped in eight points to go with her five boards.
Reigning SUNYAC Player of the Week
Lindsay Johnson and
Brianna Neeley were contributors both offensively and defensively, combing for 12 points and 15 rebounds, while
Julianna Taylor added six points and dished out four assists.
Brockport women's basketball will look to get back to their winning ways next Monday when they head home for a matchup with the University of Rochester. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
