DAYTONA, Fla. – The College at Brockport men's basketball team fell to 7-3 on the season with an 81-67 loss at the hands of Wooster on Monday afternoon. The Golden Eagles wrap up the first annual Mauro Panaggio Tournament with a second place finish.
The first half of play was a back-and-forth affair, with Brockport leading by as many as six midway through the half. With the team trailing by four,
Justin Summers sparked a 10-0 Golden Eagle run with a tough layup in the paint before Daniel knocked down a pair of jumpers to give Brockport the lead.
The Fighting Scots responded right away however with a 9-0 run of their own to regain the lead. The remainder of the half went back-and-forth, but Wooster was able to carry a six point lead into the break.
After Shamseldin got a tough layup to go early in the second that cut the lead to four, Wooster went on another 10-0 run, taking a commanding lead that they would never relinquish. The Golden Eagles cut the lead to as few as 11 with a minute and a half to play, but the Scots were able to hang on, earning the 81-67 win.
For the second straight game,
Justin Summers and
Hamed Shamseldin led the team in scoring, registering 16 and 15 points respectively. Each player also grabbed four boards, while Shamseldin dished out four assists. The duo were both selected for the All-Tournament team.
Dwayne Daniel also had a good night shooting, scoring 15 points on an efficient six-of-ten from the field. The junior showed great finesse, weaving his way through defenders on multiple occasions before pulling up from three where he shot 50%.
The Golden Eagle basketball team will now have a few weeks to enjoy the holiday break before picking things up again on January 2nd when they welcome Carnegie Mellon to Brockport for a 2 p.m. matchup.
