ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team fell to 3-7 on the season with a 79-66 loss against St. John Fisher College on Saturday evening. Four Golden Eagles scored in double figures in the outing, led by
Zaria McCullough who had a career-high 13 points.
The first quarter of play went back and forth, with both teams knocking down multiple shots from beyond the arc. There were four lead changes in the quarter, and two other times that the score was tied. The teams were tied at 16-16 with 2:47 left in the quarter, but a late 8-2 run by the Cardinals gave them a 24-18 lead at the end of the first.
The second quarter was a similar story, as the Golden Eagles kept within striking distance, continuing to knock down big shots. With 2:43 remaining on the clock,
Bailey Pratt caught a pass from
Schyler Laux and knocked down a big three-pointer, putting Brockport within a point at 31-30. Just as they did in the first however, the Cardinals used a late 6-0 run to open their lead back up to 37-30 going into the break.
Emily Nestler went to work for the Green and Gold in the third quarter, scoring four points early to tie the game back up at 37-37. Some sharp shooting from St. John Fisher allowed them to regain the lead, but a pair of late free throws from McCullough kept Brockport within three at 51-48 going into the final quarter of play.
The lead held at three until the 5:12 mark when a pair of free throws sparked a 9-0 Fisher run that opened up their lead to 12. The Golden Eagles did their best to overcome the deficit, but despite a late three from McCullough, they fell to the Cardinals by a final score of 79-66.
Following up McCullough's 13 points were Pratt and Laux who each scored 12, and Nestler who contributed 10. Nestler also led the team on the glass, grabbing nine rebounds, while
Lindsay Johnson snagged eight boards.
Brockport will be back home next Friday when they host SUNYAC-foe Geneseo, with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m.
