BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport women's basketball team took home their first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory on Saturday by completely dominating SUNY Potsdam, 87-43. The victory brings their record to 3-6 on the season and 1-3 in SUNYAC play. The loss pushes the Bears to a 1-8 record and 0-4 in league play.
The Green and Gold broke out to an 11-3 lead to start the game as
Schyler Laux tallied her first three of the night and
Bailey Pratt knocked in two of her own in the first four minute. Defensively, Brockport did a good job of keeping the Bears off of the scoreboard as they only let up ten points in the first ten minutes of play. They continued that momentum by only allowing six more points in the second quarter. Each starter tallied at least one steal in the first half and the team forced 11 turnovers, while holding Potsdam to 18% shooting from the field. Offensively, the Golden Eagles erupted for 45 points in the first half thanks to an 8-for-10 effort from behind the arc by Laux (4-for-6) and Pratt (4-4) as they contributed 30 points. The team went into halftime with a 45-16 lead.
The hot offense did not cool in the second half as a 12-0 run in the first three minutes brought the lead to 41 for the Green and Gold. The Bears offered a bit of resistance with a 9-0 run, but timely shooting by
Krystal Hunter and
Zaria McCullough put a stop to that and momentum stayed with Brockport. The Gold Eagles outscored the Bears 42-27 in the second half to take home their first conference victory, 87-43.
Laux led the team with a career high 30 points off of 7-for-11 from three. Pratt used a perfect 7-for-7 shooting from the field to notch 20 points along with five rebounds.
The Green and Gold are back in action on Dec. 30 when they travel to St. John Fisher College for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup.
