ONEONTA, N.Y.- Behind a career-high 25 points by
Olivia LeBaron, The College at Brockport women's basketball team had a huge upset win in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, taking down SUNY Oneonta 66-53 on Saturday night.

With the victory, the Golden Eagles improve to 8-15 and 7-9 in league play, while the Red Dragons fall to 13-10 and 10-6 in the SUNYAC.

The Green and Gold played stellar defense all night, holding Oneonta to just 28.6 percent shooting from the floor, while forcing 14 turnovers and turning them into 14 points.

The first period of play was a low scoring frame, with each team scoring only one basket in the first five minutes, deadlocked in a 2-2 tie. The Red Dragons broke the tie at the 2:24 mark connecting on a layup giving Oneonta a 4-2 advantage. LeBaron knocked down a triple to cut the Red Dragon lead to 8-5 at end of the first quarter of play. The Golden Eagles held Oneonta to just 23.5 percent shooting in the stanza.

LeBaron opened up the scoring for the Green and Gold in the second period connecting on another three pointer, followed by a
Faith Welch fast break layup, and a layup by LeBaron giving Brockport a 12-9 lead. Back-to-back layup's by
Lindsay Johnson and LeBaron extended The Brockport advantage to 16-9, with just under five minutes left in the half.
Welch scored layup's on two consecutive possessions making the score 23-16 in favor of Brockport. Welch connected on a runner at the buzzer to end the first stanza of play, with the Golden Eagles leading 25-19 heading into the locker room.

LeBaron put together a great first half scoring 13 of Brockport's 25 points, and Welch chipped in eight. Brockport held the Red Dragons to just 25 percent shooting and forced 10 turnovers.

Brockport extend their advantage to ten points in the first minute of the third period, following a
Hannah Rehbaum jumper and pair of free throws from Welch. The Red Dragons climbed back into the game going on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 31-28.
With just over two minutes left in the quarter the Golden Eagles went on a 5-0 run, featuring a basket by Welch. On the following procession LeBaron had a steal and an old fashion three point play, extending the advantage to 42-34. Oneonta knocked down a three pointer as time expired, cutting the Brockport lead to 46-37.

Brockport went back up 10 points following a nice entry pass from Rehbaum to
Emily Nestler who finished with a layup. A triple by the Red Dragons cut the lead back to eight points, but Welch answered with a tough runner in the lane putting the Golden Eagles back up 59-49, with just over two minutes remianing. The Green and Gold were able to ice the game from the free throw line going a 6-for-7 in the final frame.

LeBaron connected on four, three pointers, went a perfect 7-for-7 from the line, and pulled down four rebounds. Welch chipped in with 18 points, shooting 53.8 percent from the field, while pulling down five boards.
Lindsay Johnson added eight points, and nine rebounds for Brockport. The Green and Gold shot 87 percent from the charity stripe, compared to only 46.6 percent for the Red Dragons.

The Golden Eagles will return to Brockport for their final home stand of the regular season with a pair of games. The Green and Gold will host SUNY Cortland on Feb. 17, and Oswego St. on Feb. 18. Prior to the contest with the Lakers, Brockport will honor its veteran members in a senior day celebration with a ceremony held prior to tip.
