Golden Eagles Comeback Bid Falls Short On Senior Night

BROCKPORT, N.Y.- The College at Brockport was unable to complete a comeback against Oswego State, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play,on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles drop their final game of the season to Oswego in overtime, 73-64.
 

The Golden Eagles finish the regular season with a 9-16 record and 8-10 in conference play, while Oswego finishes 9-16 overall and 6-12 in league play. 

Brockport got off to a fast start in the opening period of play, Hannah Rehbaum had a hand in the Golden Eagles first six points, scoring four points and dishing out an assist in the first two minutes of the game. Rehbaum finished the frame with seven points shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor. Faith Welch scored the final four points, putting the Green and Gold up 19-11 heading into the second quarter.  

Oswego opened the second frame of play on an 11-0 run, holding Brockport scoreless for over six minutes to begin the quarter. Brianna Neeley hit a pair of free throws with just over three minutes left in the half to cut the Laker lead to 22-21. The Golden Eagles were outscored 17-4 in the period and didn't record a made basket from the floor.  

Welch led the way for Brockport in the first stanza scoring 10 points, and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Lindsay Johnson chipped in with seven rebounds and four points. 

With 2:46 left in the third quarter of play the Golden Eagles were in a 14 point hole, when Schyler Laux connected on back-to-back triples to cut the Oswego lead to eight points 43-35, with just over a minute remaining. The Lakers answered knocking down a three pointer at buzzer to push their lead to 11 points.  

Trailing by 11 points with 6:33 left in the contest, the Green Gold caught fire rattling off 12 unanswered points, taking the lead 51-50, with 2:49 left in the game. Rehbaum scored eight of those points, including two from long range. Laux connected on a triple with just over two minutes left in the contest giving Brockport a 54-51 lead, however, Oswego answered on the other end with an old fashioned three point play, tying the game up 54-54. Each team locked down defensively for the last minute of the contest, forcing overtime.  

Oswego controlled the extra frame of play outscoring the Golden Eagles 19-10. Johnson and Rehbaum each scored four points in overtime, however, it was not enough as Brockport fell 73-64.
 
Rehbaum put together an excellent performance on senior night, scoring a team-high 21 points, on 8-of-10 shooting, grabbing three boards, and dishing out three assists. Welch and Laux each chipped in with 11 points, and Johnson posted a double-double with 10 points, while pulling down a game-high 16 rebounds.
 
The Golden Eagles will play the first round of the SUNYAC playoffs, Tuesday Feb. 21 when they travel to Oneonta for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
