Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 11 Brockport edges out 6-5 victory over SLU

CANTON, N.Y. – Behind a balanced scoring attack, The No. 11 College at Brockport women's lacrosse team picked up a narrow road win on Friday, bypassing St. Lawrence University, by a margin of 6-5.

The Golden Eagles keep their 2017 record untarnished, improving to 4-0 on the year while the Saints fall to 1-4 on the season.

The Green and Gold posted three goals in each half, with three straight to open play. Jessica Boddery scored just over five minutes into action, putting away an Andrea Zlinsky set up, while Taylor Thomas worked in a Kelly Wall pass 30 seconds later for the early 2-0 lead.

Boddery would add her second goal, with Wall in on the assist again, this time at the 21:21 mark for the 3-0 advantage. Brockport saw the Saints work in a pair of goals to close the half, as they would take a 3-2 lead into the break.

To open the second frame, Wall created her own goal, burying an unassisted look just three minutes into play to push the Brockport lead out to 4-2. This time St. Lawrence had the answer, but the Golden Eagles worked to get on the board again, as Heather Conklin sent a shot through to the back of the cage for the 5-3 edge.

Brockport saw the Saints offense with an uptick of action, as they snuck in two straight scores to knot the contest at 5-5 with 10:33 to play. Conklin again worked to post the answer, and at the 8:46 mark netted her second goal of the contest, a goal that would prove to be the game-winner, as Brockport held on for the 6-5 win.

Head coach Stephen Wagner's offense proved to be efficient, but the Green and Gold defense was just as tenacious in the contest, forcing 23 St. Lawrence turnovers and doubling up the Saints in ground balls, with a count of 24-12. Brockport converted on 11-of-14 clear attempts, while disrupting their counterparts, who converted a mere 9-of-17.

Lauren Mancini and Cassandra Minerd wreaked havoc on the defensive end, with each accounting for two caused turnovers, while Mancini scooped up four ground balls. Wall, Thomas and Caitlin Cavallaro each picked up three ground balls, while Katie Curran, Hannah Cullen, Tess Knight and Samantha Dooling all snagged two GB's.

Cavallaro stood tall in the cage for the Green and Gold for all 60 minutes of action, where she made one save on the day.

The Golden Eagles will return to action on March 25 when they host Springfield College, with opening draw set for 11 a.m.
