Brockport overwhelms Springfield, 14-4

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The No. 12 College at Brockport women's lacrosse team braved the elements to pick up a decisive win on Saturday, downing Springfield College, 14-4.

The Golden Eagles improve to 5-0 on the year while the Pride fall to 3-4 on the season.

The Green and Gold opened the contest strong, rattling off six straight scores to take an early 6-0 lead by the 6:38 mark. Brockport saw two goals from Andrea Zlinsky, Jillian Babinsky and a goal apiece from Hannah Cullen and Kelly Wall.

Springfield snuck in a goal at the 3:08 mark, but the Green and Gold worked in three scores to close the half, with Taylor Thomas, Jessica Boddery and Zlinsky all finding the back of the cage to take a 9-1 lead into the break.

The scoring slowed slightly in the second half, with the Pride opening the scoring less than two minutes in. Cullen worked to post the answer, and added the Green and Gold's 10th goal at the 23:14 mark. Brockport would trade scores again with Springfield, this time posting a pair of answers, from Babinsky and Cullen to push out to a 12-3 edge.

Brockport saw the Pride work in their final goal of the contest at the 9:19 mark, but closed the half strong with a pair of scores from Babinsky and Alison Zlinsky 14-4.

While the Green and Gold offense was firing on all accounts, the Brockport defense stepped up big, wreaking havoc on the Pride. Nikki Nolan and Andrea Zlinsky each had three caused turnovers, with Andrea Zlinsky adding three ground balls. Lauren Mancini and Cassandra Minerd each picked up a pair of CT's, while Cullen scooped up five ground balls, and net minder Caitlin Cavallaro snagged four.

As a team, Brockport overwhelmed their counterparts, with a 30-11 edge in shots, 24-7 advantage in shots on goal, a 25-19 tally in ground balls and worn the draws count, 11-8. The Green and Gold forced 25 Springfield turnovers, and went 18-for-22 on clears.

Cavallaro picked up over 45 minutes of action, with two saves in route to the win, while Sarah Brown saw over 14 minutes of action and grabbed one save.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Mach 16 when they play Montclair State, with opening draw set for 12 p.m.
