No. 6/19 Brockport doubles up Buffalo State, 18-9

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The No. 6/19 College at Brockport women's lacrosse team hit the road on Tuesday for State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, and brought home a solid win, downing Buffalo State, 18-9.

The Golden Eagles improve to 10-1 on the year and remain unbeaten with a 5-0 mark in league play, while the Bengals fall to 6-7 in 2017 and 3-2 in the SUNYAC.

The Green and Gold were forced to play catch-up early on, as Buff State worked their way onto the board early. It didn't take long for the Brockport offense to spark, as they fired off six straight scores to claim a 6-1 advantage. Andrea Zlinsky got things started, with Heather Conklin finding the back of the cage less than a minute later to take their first lead.

Jessica Boddery kept things rolling, burying a Taylor Thomas set up. Thomas worked in her own score at the 21:35 mark, sneaking in a Conklin dish. Boddery connected on her second goal, while Kelly Wall added the sixth Green and Gold score.

Brockport saw the Bengals post a pair, but worked to tally the three-goal answer, with Conklin connecting on a Wall assist for the 7-3 edge. Defender Cassandra Minerd went straight to the cage off a draw control win, netting her third goal of the season and Wall added her second goal of the contest to post the 9-3 lead. The two teams would trade scores to close the half, as Hannah Cullen had the final say, giving Brockport a 10-4 lead at the midway point.

Boddery had a strong second half, scoring two of the three Green and Gold goals that opened play. Cullen added a score, as the Golden Eagles posted a 13-4 lead with at the 23:05 mark. Brockport saw the Bengals add a pair of scores, but posted two-goal answers following each Buff State connection. Cullen and Thomas poured in the first two goals, while Conklin and Boddery connected for the 17-6 lead.

The Bengals worked to add three goals to close the half, with Zlinsky slipping in a goal to break up the Bengal scoring, as the Golden Eagles secured the 18-9 win.

Brockport edged their counterparts in shots (37-17), shots on goal (29-14), ground balls (24-12) and draw controls (19-9). The Green and Gold forced 18 Buff State turnovers and went 10-for-12 on clears.

Thomas did it all for the Golden Eagles, picking up two goals, two assists, two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Wall added five ground balls, a pair of goals and an assist, while Minerd accounted for five draw control wins and a goal.

Sarah Brown picked up the win and the start in 22 minutes of action, making four saves. Caitlin Cavallaro saw 38 minutes of action, making five stops.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on April 22 when they continue their road stretch, heading to SUNY Potsdam for a 1 p.m. contest.
