Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Brockport overwhelms Emira, 19-5

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – In a break from conference action, The College at Brockport men's lacrosse team posted a strong win over Elmira College, 19-5.

The Golden Eagles improve to 5-3 on the season while the Soaring Eagles fall to 1-6 in 2017.

The Green and Gold had a sluggish start, falling behind 2-1 by the 9:05 mark. Following a Brockport timeout, head coach Ben Wineburg's squad had an offensive awakening, rattling off five straight goals to close the first frame.

Jake Giudice netted his second goal to get things moving, with Liam Cannon finding the cage on back-to-back possessions to push to a 4-2 lead. Giudice buried a Zach Cook set up, with a Jake Recor goal off a Cutis Raymond pass closing the frame with a 6-2 lead.

In the second quarter, it was all Brockport, as the Green and Gold held the Soaring Eagles scoreless and found the back of the cage on seven different looks. Joe Mikiciuk got things started, with Recor notching a hat-trick in the frame. Giudice snuck in a pair of goals, while Cook added a goal to take a 13-2 advantage into the break.

The strong Brockport play continued in the second half, with Corey Choberka opening play with a goal off a Recor pass. Elmira worked in three quick scores, but Brockport posted a four-goal answer to close the half. Brad Sovocool took advantage of a man-up opportunity to start the scoring streak, while Choberka, Recor and Hunter Solecki each found the back of the cage for the 18-5 edge.

The fourth frame saw quite the slow down, with only one goal in the period. Brian McGreevy, less than a minute into the quarter, buried an unassisted look to secure the 19-5 Brockport win.

The Golden Eagles were overwhelming on all accounts, with Giudice leading the offense with seven points from five goals and two assists. Recor was just behind him with six points off five goals and an assist, with Cannon posting three points on two goals.

On the defensive side Steven Gurin led the way with a pair of caused turnovers and two ground balls, while nine Golden Eagles accounted for a single CT each. Michael Caternolo had an outstanding day in the face off circle, going 21-for-22 in face offs and adding 12 ground balls.

Four Green and Gold net minders saw action, with Dallas Meyers getting the start and the win in 30 minutes of action, making three stops. Trey Love picked up 15 minutes in the cage, while Same DiPace came in for just over seven minutes and made two saves. John Clancy closed out the contest, with over seven minutes in the cage.

As a team, Brockport dominated the contest, with a 68-15 tally in shots, a 47-10 edge in shots on goal, a lopsided 42-8 in ground balls and a 26-2 edge in face off wins. The Green and Gold also went a perfect 9-for-9 on clears and forced 17 Elmira turnovers.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on April 8 when they head to Cortland, N.Y. to take on State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foes SUNY Cortland.
