BROCKPORT, N.Y. – For the second straight season The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team has been selected to compete in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship, where they will open the second round of the tournament in Granville, Ohio against Denison University.
This will be the second matchup between the two teams this season, as Brockport defeated Denison 11-5 in the first game of the 2017 campaign. The Golden Eagles controlled nearly every phase of the game in that matchup, outpacing the Big Red in shots (32-17), draw controls (10-8), and ground balls (25-19). SUNYAC Player of the Year
Kelly Wall was the offensive leader in the contest, scoring three times while adding five draw controls and three ground balls.
Road games have not presented any disadvantage to the Golden Eagles this season, as they're currently 7-0 in away contests. Denison sits at 7-1 on their home field, with the sole loss coming in the season-opener against Brockport.
This is the second straight season that both teams have played in the NCAA Second-Round, as Denison also earned a bid last season after winning the NCAC Championship. They lost their first contest in the tournament, 12-8 to Mary Washington. The Golden Eagles run lasted a bit longer, as they rolled by St. Mary's College of Maryland 10-1 before falling in a tight 11-9 contest to Franklin and Marshall in the "Sweet-16".
Denison won the NCAC tournament again this season, giving them an automatic qualifier into the tournament, while the Green and Gold secured their first regular-season SUNYAC title in program history before taking second in the conference playoffs, receiving an at-large bid for their efforts.
