BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport field hockey teams is looking to start a new successful chapter with hire of new head coach
Krista Archambeau.
Last year the Golden Eagles finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 5-12, with a 1-5 mark in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play.
Under the direction of new head coach Archambeau, who joined the Brockport Athletic staff this past Spring, the Golden Eagles will look to make their first SUNYAC playoff appearance since 2010.
"I'm excited to see our growth and progress throughout the season," Archambeau said. "The team is working more as a collective unit each day, and I am excited to see that continue, which will hopefully bring some wins."
The Golden Eagles bring back five seniors, four juniors, and four sophomores to help pace the Green and Gold this season.
The leadership from the team will come from the seniors who will include, defender
Whitney Markwica, midfielders
Kaitlin Croghan,
Kelsey Devine,
Margo Tremaine, and forward
Mariah Clark.
"The seniors have been great leaders on and off the field," Archambeau noted. "They're approachable and encouraging, which is allowing for the Freshmen to adjust well."
Devine was selected SUNYAC Second-Team All-Conference last season, who notched one goal and lead the conference in defensive saves with nine, in which she was tied for 11th nationally.
Other key returners are Tremaine who lead the Green and Gold in scoring last year with seven goals and
Abby Meagher who scored four goals and handed out three assists, which earned her Second-Team All-Conference.
Other returners to the team include juniors
Maria Morgenthaler,
Christina Conkling,
Adriana DeDie,
Sarah Beam, and sophomores
Julia Weyant,
Maya Reina, and
Grace Beardsley.
Brockport also brought in nine new faces to the roster this season in defender
Luna Horan, midfielders
Jenna Croce,
Emily Hall,
Grayce Weller,
Jordan Stando, and forwards
Molly Scarpello,
Olivia Douglas,
Katie Ziemba,
Meaghan Lurz.
"The newcomers are talented and hard working. We have two sophomore additions, and a solid group of true freshmen," stated Archambeau. "They're all coachable and eager to make an impact on the field."
Brockport will open their Archambeau era and showcase their hard work in the season opener on Sept. 1st at home, on Bob Boozer Field, where they face Keuka College at 4 p.m.
