SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The College at Brockport lost in three straight sets to the No. 16 ranked Carnegie Mellon Friday evening at the
Susquehanna University Tournament .
The Golden Eagles move to 6-5 on the 2017 season, while he Tartans improve to a perfect 9-0.
Brockport trailed early in the first set after a three-point rally, 7-4. The Green and Gold trailed for most of the game, until a four-point streak which gave Brockport their first lead of the game, 19-17. The Green and Gold couldn't hold off Carnegie Mellon, who scored the final two points to take the first set, 27-25
The Golden Eagles went toe-to-toe with the Tartans keeping the second set close. After a three-point rally for Brockport, Carnegie Mellon strung together two scoring- streaks totaling nine points to take
the lead at 21-11. The Green and Gold foughtto get back in the game, but the Tartans closed out the match with a final score of 25-15.
In the third set, both teams battled throughout the game keeping the score close. A three-point run with a kill from
DeAnna Ortiz-Whittemore and two aces from
Rachel Fiser, Brockport took the lead 13-12. The Green and Gold saw the Tartans rally, establishing a 20-16 edge The Golden Eagles made a last chance run to take the lead, but it was not enough as Carnegie Mellon took the third set and the match by a score of 25-19.
Brockport was led by
Laiken Fox and Whittemore who finished with nine kills apiece.
Maddy Taylor lead the team defensively with 15 digs and
Christa Mickol had nine.
The Golden Eagles are back again
tomorrow , Sept. 16th when they face
Stevenson University at 2 p.m. and
Susquehanna University at 6 p.m.
