BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport volleyball team swept D'Youville College to win in three straight sets Wednesday evening. The Golden Eagles move to 10-7 on the 2017 season, where the Spartans drop to 6-8.
The Green and Gold jumped out to an early 6-3 lead with a block from
Meaghan Mastro and an ace from
Jamie Schlesinger. Both teams traded points throughout the first set, but the Brockport offense paced their way to a win, 25-16.
The Golden Eagles started hot with a five-point run to start the second set. Brockport created a larger separation midway through the game with two kills from
Lindsey Luce and another by Schlesinger to take a 16-9 advantage. The Green and Gold built on that momentum to to eventually take set two by a score of 25-18.
Brockport cruised through the third set winning by a score of 25-8.
Christa Mickol helped build an early lead by earning four aces during an eight-point rally. The Golden Eagles followed that with another six-point streak will kills from
Elena Grossman,
Laiken Fox, and Mastro. The Green and Gold closed out the third set to win the match over the Spartans.
Brockport was led by Schlesinger with seven kills, where
Cassie Birth and
Brianna Richardson accounted for six
Maddy Taylor led the defense with 11 digs and Mickol finished with seven
Brockport will take a week off before they travel to Geneseo for the second State University of Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) pool play event, where they face on Plattsburgh State Friday Oct. 6th with the game starting at 5 p.m.
