CLINTON, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team had their two-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday evening, falling to Hamilton College by a final score of 60-53. The Golden Eagles fall to 5-10 on the season, while Hamilton improves to 12-4.
This game was a tale of two halves, as Brockport controlled both of the opening two quarters before allowing Hamilton to take over in the second half.
Emily Nestler dominated the opening quarter of play, going for four-for-five from the field for eight points.
Lindsay Johnson, who ended the game with a team-high 17 points, had the first jumper of the game for Brockport, and also had a key block late in the first that allowed Brockport to carry a lead into the first break.
Johnson and
Julianna Taylor each scored four in the second quarter to lead Brockport, who carried a seven point lead into the half. They led by as many as 12 midway through the quarter, but a late run by the Continentals allowed them to close the gap and keep the game within striking distance.
That strike came in the third quarter when they outscored Brockport 19-9, gaining their first lead since early in the first. They continued that momentum into the fourth quarter, scoring another nineteen points to put the game away.
Johnson not only led the team in scoring, but also in rebounding, collecting eight on the day. She also added a block and a steal to her stat line, joining Nestler, Taylor, and
Schyler Laux who all played stingy defense, recording a steal and a black apiece.
Bailey Pratt and
Zaria McCullough scored eight points apiece, while Pratt also played the role of distributor, dishing out four assists.
The Golden Eagles will hit the road again this weekend when they travel north for SUNYAC matchups with Potsdam (Friday – 5:30 p.m.) and Plattsburgh (Saturday – 1 p.m.).
