POTSDAM, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's basketball team continued their winning ways on Friday defeating State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe SUNY Potsdam 68-53. The success of late as led to six consecutive triumphs on the hardwood.
The victory moves the Golden Eagles to a 13-3 record on the season and 8-1 in SUNYAC play, while the Bears fall to an 8-8 mark and 3-6 in conference games.
Neither team scored in the first 1:47 of the game, but once
Josh Nelson recorded the first points of the game, Brockport held the lead for the entirety if the first half. The Bears stayed on pace with Green and Gold, but efficient shooting by
Tyler Collins and 7-for-8 combined free throw shooting from
Justin Summers and
Dwayne Daniel, helped the unit maintain a consistent four to seven-point lead. As the half-time horn sounded The Golden Eagles held a 34-27 advantage.
Hamed Shamseldin led the team in scoring with nine points, and guards Collins (6) and Daniel (7) combined for 13. Summers and Collins both grabbed five rebounds each as the team led in that category 27-23.
Brockport picked up the pace to start the second frame, bringing their advantage to eight with 16:55 to play. Potsdam cut the lead to two points at the 12-minute mark before a 14-0 Golden Eagle run split the game wide open. Summers started it off with back-to-back layups and Daniels followed with a three-pointer to extend the lead to nine. Collins contributed a layup and a three pointer to bring the score to 58-44. The advantage was too much for the Bears to overcome, and the Green and Gold came out on top 68-53.
Collins scored 17 points, shooting 6-for-10 from the field and grabbing six rebounds. Summers recorded another double-double scoring 15 points and collecting 12 boards. The bench was on display for Brockport, outscoring the opposition 34-to-23.
The Golden Eagles cap off their road trip with a 3 p.m. SUNYAC matchup against Plattsburgh State on Saturday, Jan 20.
