PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's basketball team lost a tough State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game against Plattsburgh State, 93-80. The Golden Eagle record sits at 12-4 on the season and 7-2 in conference play, while the Cardinals move to 10-4 and have an 8-1 mark in SUNYAC games.
The Green and Gold kept the game close in the first ten minutes, with the lead changing seven times and both teams seeing the competition tied five times.
Hamed Shamseldin and
Justin Summers scored a combined 14 points in the first ten minutes to keep the matchup tight and the deficit at 23-21. Unfortunately, the Brockport offense hit a cold streak in the final ten minutes of the first half, only scoring six points and falling behind 54-27 at the break.
The Golden Eagles started off the second half with a 13-3 run to creep back into the game. Summers hit two layups, followed by a layup by
Abdoulaye Sow and three points by
Josh Nelson brought the score to 57-36. Shamseldin hit a bucket of his own before assisting a Summers make to bring the deficit to 17 points. The Green and Gold used the final 4:51 of the game to go on a 24-7 run, but it proved to be insufficient as the Cardinals held on to win 93-80.
Summers led the team with 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Shamseldin hit 16 points of his own.
Michael O'Hara chipped in 11 points and six boards to offer big minutes off the bench.
Brockport returns home for a high anticipated matchup against SUNY Cortland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26.
