PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team continued their State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) winning streak on Saturday afternoon, defeating Plattsburgh State 81-67. The victory marks the fourth straight conference win for the Green and Gold, improving them to 5-5 in SUNYAC play (7-10 overall).
The Golden Eagles now find themselves squarely in the SUNYAC Playoff picture, as they're in a three way tie for fifth place with Plattsburgh and Fredonia.
For the second straight game,
Lindsay Johnson recorded a double-double, this time registering a team-high 24 points to go with her 12 boards.
Emily Nestler also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, as the Golden Eagles post play dominated once again.
The first quarter of this game saw back-and-forth action, with neither team holding more than a four point advantage at any point. Nestler and Johnson combined for 13 of the teams 16 points in the quarter, with
Bailey Pratt chipping in on the offensive end with a made three-pointer.
The battle continued in the second quarter, as the teams continued to trade points. The frame saw four lead changes, capped off by a pair of late free throws from the Cardinals that gave them a one point lead going into the break.
Brockport took control of the game in the third quarter, starting things out on a 6-0 run that gave them their largest lead of the game with 8:24 to go in the quarter. Plattsburgh fought back to tie things up a few minutes later, but sharp shooting from Pratt and
Schyler Laux allowed the Green and Gold to outscore the Cardinals 26-19 in the frame, giving them a commanding lead going into the fourth quarter.
Plattsburgh would not go quietly, as the first seven points of the final frame went to the Cardinals, allowing them to close the gap all the way to one. For the second straight game however, Brockport was strong in the face of adversity, this time finding a spark from
Bailey Pratt. The sophomore answered Plattsburgh's 7-0 run by sinking four threes in the final 5:51 of play, all but securing the game for Brockport.
Pratt ended the game with 21 points on seven-of-ten from long range, and also grabbed eight boards. Laux finished in double-figures as well, contributing 13, while
Zaria McCullough,
Julianna Taylor, and
Brianna Neeley also scored.
The Golden Eagles will look to keep their hot streak going next weekend when they host a pair of conference games against Cortland and Oswego.
