Brockport Extends Win Streak With Fourth Quarter Comeback

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team won their sixth consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Saturday afternoon, defeating Oswego State 58-50 behind a fourth quarter comeback. The win is also their fourth straight, and sixth in the last seven games.

The Golden Eagles are now 9-10 on the season (7-5 SUNYAC), while the Lakers fall to 5-14 overall, and 2-10 in conference play.

Lindsay Johnson scored the first four points of the game for the Golden Eagles on a pair of jumpers in the paint, giving the team an early lead for the second straight game. Bailey Pratt extended that lead to seven when she nailed a three-pointer just over two minutes in following a layup from Emily Nestler.

The Lakers were able to keep themselves in the game, closing the gap and eventually taking the lead after a late three from Courtney Ameele.

The second quarter was much of the same, with the two teams trading baskets throughout, and neither pulling ahead by more than three points. Raven Encarnacion put the Lakers up three with 30 seconds to play, but Zaria McCullough hit a clutch jump shot as time expired in the half, making it a one-point Oswego lead heading into the half.

The Green and Gold offense went cold in the third quarter, as the team managed just seven points in the frame. The defense held Oswego in check however, keeping the game within striking distance at 42-36 heading into the final period of play.

After Nestler got the fourth quarter started with a dominant second chance put-back, the Golden Eagles were off to the races. Johnson followed her up by knocking down back-to-back jumpers, before Pratt used an assist from Julianna Taylor to finish a fast break opportunity that put Brockport up by seven.

The Lakers closed the gap to as few as four, but Zaria McCullough came up clutch from the free throw line late in the game, draining all four of her attempts to allow the Golden Eagles to hang on for the win.

McCullough finished the game with ten points, bettered only by Nestler who scored 13 and Johnson who had 18. Johnson also led the team in rebounding, grabbing seven while Schyler Laux pulled down six.

Taylor was key on the defensive end of the floor, especially late in the game where she continued to get in the passing lanes, registering three steals.

The Golden Eagles have six games left on their regular season schedule, beginning this Tuesday when they travel to Fredonia for a 5:30 p.m. SUNYAC matchup.
