FREDONIA, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team extended their winning streak to five straight games on Tuesday evening, defeating the Fredonia Blue Devils by a final score of 49-46. The Golden Eagles are now 10-10 on the season (8-5 SUNYAC), and have won seven straight conference games.
Schyler Laux was the only Brockport player to score in double-figures in this game, as stingy defense from both sides made for a low scoring game. Laux was able to display her sharp shooting however, going five for ten from the three point line.
As they have so often this season, Brockport jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, as
Lindsay Johnson knocked down a jumper on the opening possession of the game, and Laux followed her up with a three ball to put Brockport up 5-0.
Bailey Pratt got involved in the action a bit later in the quarter with two straight made jumpers to give the Golden Eagles a 12-8 lead heading into the second quarter.
Both offenses were held in check during the second quarter, as
Megan Anagnostopulos provided the only shooting spark for Brockport, nailing her three-point attempt halfway through the frame to put the Golden Eagles up nine. Fredonia came on strong in the final 3:30 of the half however, and a 9-2 run had them trailing by just two going into the break.
Brockport got things rolling in the third quarter, scoring 20 points as a team, with Laux and Johnson leading the way with six apiece.
Emily Nestler,
Zaria McCullough,
Julianna Taylor, and
Brianna Neeley all chipped in as well, keeping consistent with the theme of the night which was contributions from all over the court.
The Blue Devils closed a nine point fourth quarter gap to as few as three with 1:30 left in the game, but the Green and Gold defense was able to hang tough, and the game would end at 49-46.
All nine active Brockport players scored points in this game, marking the second time this season that each Golden Eagle player has scored in the same game. Johnson and Nestler were the leaders on the boards, each grabbing eight while
Krystal Hunter and Neeley combined for nine.
Brockport will look to extend their winning streak this Saturday when they travel to Geneseo for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Knights.
