FREDONIA, N.Y.— The College at Brockport men's basketball team used stout defense and consistent offense in the second half to pull away from Fredonia State in a 73-55 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win.
The victory moves the Golden Eagles to a 15-5 overall record and 10-3 in SUNYAC play. Fredonia now sits at 3-16 on the year and drop to 1-12 in conference competition.
The Green and Gold fell behind early in game, finding themselves behind 6-0 in the first three minutes. After a 30-second timeout, buckets by
Michael O'Hara,
Tyler Collins and
Justin Summers cut the deficit to two. Although the Blue Devils maintained a lead for the first nine minutes, Brockport continued to battle and claimed their first advantage at the 11 minute mark after a layup by Summers put the team up 18-17. Both teams were unable to pull away and the score was tied 30-30 at halftime.
The Golden Eagles grabbed the lead to start the second frame and jumped out to a six point lead. Fredonia, however, did not quit and kept the game close until a 9-0 Brockport run forced an opponent time out. The run was started off with a Summers dunk, which was followed up by a
Dwayne Daniel three-pointer. Summers and O'Hara added layups to grab a 52-43 lead at the 11:01 mark, but the Brockport offense was not done there. In the final seven minutes of the game, the Green and Gold ran away with the game, using a 15-5 run to claim a 73-55 victory of the conference opponent.
Brockport outscored the Blue Devils 43-25 in the second half.
Hamed Shamseldin had team high 26 points, while grabbing four rebounds and dishing four assists. Summers had a solid game offensively as well, knocking in 18 points of his own.
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Saturday Feb. 3 when they travel to SUNY Geneseo for a 3 p.m. SUNYAC matchup.
