Brockport Falls To Buffalo State After Fourth Quarter Comeback

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team lost in heartbreaking fashion to Buffalo State on Tuesday evening by a final score of 56-54. The Golden Eagles fall to = 3-9 on the season (1-5 SUNYAC), while the Bengals improve to 6-5 (4-3).

The Golden Eagles had a good shooting first quarter, as Zaria McCullough, Bailey Pratt, and Schyler Laux all drained threes to help Brockport carry a 21-12 lead into the second quarter. Emily Nestler was also instrumental in the frame, scoring five points and pulling down a pair of boards.

The team stretched that lead to as many as 16 in the second quarter, as Nestler continued to dominate down low, either sinking a layup or getting fouled on nearly every offensive possession. The Bengals were able to cut into that lead late in the half however, using a late jumper from Liv Lebaron to cut the deficit to nine going into halftime.

Lindsay Johnson got it going in the third quarter, using her physically to control the paint area on her way to eight points and five boards in the second half. The combination of Johnson and Nestler allowed the Green and Gold to outscore Buffalo State 16-14 in the paint.

Brockport stayed on top all the way until the 1:46 mark of the fourth quarter when a three-pointer by Jenna Faulkner gave the Bengals their first lead since the opening minutes. Julianna Taylor brought Brockport back with a layup, but a Buffalo State deep ball with less than a minute remaining turned out to be the difference, as the Bengals were able to hold on for the 56-54 victory.

Nestler led Brockport scorers in this outing with her 15 points, and was followed up by Johnson and Laux who each contributed ten. Johnson finished off her double-double with thirteen boards, while Pratt snagged five.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action this Friday when they host Fredonia at 5:30 p.m. before traveling to Buffalo State on Saturday for a chance at redemption against the Bengals.
