ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The College at Brockport women's volleyball team earned themselves an impressive win over Alfred University, defeating them in three straight sets. With the win, the Golden Eagles move to 13-9, while the Saxons drop to 2-17 on the year.
The Green and Gold kicked off the first set in dominating fashion, racking up ten straight points that was started by a kill by
Alexi Hamilton.
Maddy Taylor kept the run going with a trio of service aces that were only split up by oppositional errors.
Lindsey Luce added a kill to the run that saw Brockport take an 11-2 lead. The Saxons attempted to make a comeback, but the Golden Eagles responded with their own runs of three and four points that kept their advantage at double digits to the very end when they took the first set, 25-14.
The second frame saw continued dominance by Brockport, as they jumped to an 8-1 lead.
Lauren Hess recorded two kills in that spree, while Hamilton and Luce each added one of their own. Hess, Luce and Hamilton were also involved in a pair of blocks that kept the Alfred attack at bay. The Green and Gold clicked on all cylinders as they allowed the Saxons to collect only eight points in the entire set.
In the third and final set, the Golden Eagles were challenged and found themselves down 11-7 half way through the frame. The unit gathered their composure and kills by Luce, Hamilton and a service ace by
Shelby Budnick tied the score up at 13 each, before an
Abbey Manning service ace gave the team a lead. Both teams traded leads and equalizers until four straight points sealed the deal for Brockport.
Hamilton led the team with 11 kills as Luce contributed ten and
Laiken Fox added nine. Budnick and Taylor each served well, recording three aces a piece.
Kerri McHale led the offense with 36 assists, while defensively,
Christa Mickol and Manning both had ten digs.
The Golden Eagles continue to compete in the Rochester Institute of Technology Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they face off against Nazareth College at 11 a.m. and Elmira College at 3 p.m.
