Golden Eagles Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

BROCKPORT N.Y. - The College at Brockport women's soccer team defeated Oswego Friday afternoon, by a score of 2-1. With the win, Brockport keeps their playoff hopes alive by moving to a 7-9 overall record and 3-5 in conference, while the Lakers fall to 6-6-3 overall and 2-4-2 in the SUNYAC.

The Golden Eagles found themselves behind early in this must-win SUNYAC matchup. The Lakers forwards found an opening in the Brockport defense and put it past Kimberly Lubanski just six minutes into the contest. The Green and Gold would not let the early goal deter them from their objective. The Golden Eagles brought the offensive pressure to the Lakers side of the field for the remainder of the half, out-chancing Oswego 11-4 in the first 45 minutes. The Green and Gold would knot the game at one when Maddie Siclare found Myriah Saar for her fourth goal of the season.

The second half saw two teams battling it out for one of the last playoff seeds. The Green and Gold had a few quality opportunities as the half winded down but the Lakers goalkeeper played tough. Oswego looked like they might take the lead late in the half when they hit the crossbar and then found a rebound opportunity, but Brockport's goalkeeper Kimberly was there to shut the door, forcing the game into extra time.

It only took Brockport six minutes of over time to find the back of the net—Marissa Greiner stole the ball from a Lakers defender at the top of the box and made a centering cross to Krista Statt, who scored her third of the season and put the Green and Gold on top, 2-1.

The Green and Gold are back in action Friday, Oct. 20 when they travel to Cortland for a 3 p.m. matchup.
