ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The College at Brockport women's volleyball team defeated Rochester Institute of Technology, 3-1, to earn their tenth straight victory. The outcome pushes the Golden Eagles to a 19-9 record on the year.
The Green and Gold snagged the lead in the first set, 5-4, and held on the entire frame holding off multiple Tiger attacks. The largest advantage held by Brockport occurred after a 4-0 run that saw two errors by RIT split up by two service aces by
Meaghan Mastro. The Tigers continued to push back down the stretch, but kills by
Laiken Fox,
Lindsey Luce and
Cassie Birth kept the team ahead until a service error by the opposition gave the team a 25-21 victory.
After dropping the second set, Brockport fell behind early in the third and were not able to string together points until a 4-0 oppositional run forced a
Steve Pike timeout. From that moment the Golden Eagles caught fire knocking down five straight points thanks to back-to-back Luce kills, two RIT errors and a kill by Birth, which gave them a 20-18 lead. The teams proceeded to trade points, which gave Brockport a 25-23 set three victory.
The fourth and final set saw a display of dominance by the Golden Eagles. After claiming a 3-2 advantage, the team used a 11-7 spree to jump to a 14-9 lead before knocking down four straight points to go ahead by eight points. Despite RIT once against attempting to mount a comeback, Luce went ahead and iced the game with a kill to take a 25-17 set four win.
Brockport will next travel to Carnegie Mellon University to compete in a non-conference tournament on Oct. 26 and 27. The competition will begin on Friday, Oct. 26 with a 5 p.m. matchup against Ohio Wesleyan.
