Brockport Drops Regular Season Finale To Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH, PA.—The College at Brockport women's volleyball team wrapped up the 2018 regular season with a 3-0 loss to Carnegie Mellon University, the host of the 2018 Carnegie Mellon Volleyball Quad. The Golden Eagles finished the regular season with a record of 19-11 and State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) record of 7-2.

The first set got off to a good start for the Green and Gold after a trio of Tartan errors and a Lindsey Luce kill. The opposition mounted a comeback to tie things up at 4-4 before both teams began trading points until Laiken Fox used a pair of kills to push the squad ahead by two. Carnegie Mellon used a run to grab their own lead of two before the teams proceeded to trade points again. The Golden Eagles grabbed the advantage yet again after three straight points pushed them ahead by one, but the Tartans proved to be a valiant team using a 9-2 run to take the first frame.

Brockport came out stumbling in the second set, falling behind 10-2 before taking a timeout. The Green and Gold continued to battle and cut the deficit to six after kills by Alexi Hamilton and Kerri McHale were split up by an error by the Tartans. The unit was unable to get any closer as they dropped the frame 25-14.

In the third set the Green and Gold used constant pressure to stay close against the Tartans. Fox recorded four kills in a 5-2 stretch that saw the unit cut the score to 12-10 before trimming it to one moments later thanks to a pair of Luce kills. The Golden Eagles evened the score at 16-16 before letting up a 9-2 run that saw them drop the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.

Brockport returns home to host the quarterfinals of the SUNYAC tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. against Oswego State. Earlier in the season the Golden Eagles defeated the Lakers in three straight sets.
