BROCKPORT, N.Y.- The College at Brockport field hockey team battled the cold Friday night and came out victorious with a 4-2 win over Morrisville State. The team picks up their first conference win of the season, improving to 4-7 overall while Morrisville falls to 1-9.
Â
The first-half of action was heavily slanted in Brockport's favor as they took an early lead. With shots coming from three different players, the Golden Eagles used their offensive surge to control the pace. The first goal came from a scramble in front of Morrisville's net with freshman
Emily Hall burying the biscuit for her second goal of the season. The Golden Eagles continued to demand the field, forcing three penalty corners in the next two minutes. Fourth time was a charm for sophomore
Katie Ziemba, as she found a beautiful pass across the circle from
Katelynn Mello to put Brockport up 2-0. Mello would then add a goal of her own to put the Green and Gold up 3-0 before the half.
Â
The Golden Eagles kept the ball rolling to start the second half with Ziemba single handedly forcing her way into the Mustang defense and firing a shot from the top of the circle for her seventh goal of the season and widening the gap to 4-0. Morrisville answered back less than a minute later to end the shutout. With 20 minutes to play, Morrisville collected their second goal of night but Brockport's strong defensive effort would hold them to that.
Â
Ziemba, Mello, and Hall ran the offense for the Golden Eagles, adding twelve shots on goal and four goals collectively. Goalie
Adriana DeDie held it down for defense, finishing the night with seven saves on 10 shots on goal for a .778 save percentage.
Â
Brockport returns for a three-game home stand next week, starting with Houghton College Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
