Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Brockport Drops First Game Of SUNYAC Pool Play

BUFFALO, N.Y.—The College at Brockport women's volleyball team began the second weekend of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) pool play with a tough 3-0 loss to SUNY Geneseo. The Green and Gold fall to 9-9 on the season and 2-2 in conference play, while the Knights jump to 12-6 on the year and move to 4-0 in SUNYAC competition.

The Golden Eagles got off to a slow start in the first set, falling behind 5-0, before a kill by Lindsey Luce stopped the run. The team battled back thanks to a pair of kills by Meaghan Mastro and one more by Abbey Manning cut the deficit to 7-5. Despite multiple runs of three or four points, Brockport couldn't get ahead in the set, dropping it 25-15.

The Green and Gold worked an early 4-2 advantage in the second frame thanks to a couple of Geneseo errors, a service ace by Christa Mickol and kill by Luce. Another 3-0 run helped further the lead to 7-3 before the opposition used a streak of their own to even the set. The Golden Eagles once again grabbed the advantage with back-to-back kills by Luce and Kerri McHale. The frame then saw a variety of lead changes as both teams traded points. The Knights once again used a long run that put the set out of reach and put Brockport behind 2-0.  Brockport was not able to string together points in the third set, falling 25-8 and losing the match 3-0.

Luce led the way in kills with eight with Mastro contributed five. Kerri McHale recorded 12 assists and Maddy Taylor had 16 digs, while Mickol chipped in 13.

The pool play continues Saturday, Oct. 6 with Brockport battling Buffalo State at 12 p.m. before taking on SUNY Cortland at 2:30 p.m.
