BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team capped off their Tip-Off Tournament Saturday night with a championship win over Houghton College 65-57. The team improves to 2-1 on the season.
Brockport's momentum from Friday's nights win definitely carried over into their performance Saturday afternoon, once again demanding the floor from the very start. The Golden Eagles led the entire first half, amassing 26 points while completing 7-of-8 attempts at the free throw line.
Once again Emily Nester led the Green and Gold offense, netting 18 points and two assists, while completing 6-of-7 free throw attempts on the afternoon. Not only was the senior the leading force in points but forcefully demanded the paint the entire game, collecting 11 rebounds.
Zaria McCullough finally found her groove, using her quick feet and swift ball movement to put up 12 points and six assists. McCullough and sophomore
Julianna Taylor continuously forced their way into the Highlanders offensive circle allowing for ample amounts of opportunities for the Golden Eagles, Taylor adding 11 points of her own. Freshman
Chelsea Henry and
Allison Chiera were the dual threats the Green and Gold needed, collectively putting up 15 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists.
The Golden Eagles definitely figured out how to use their rotation effectively, collecting 28 bench points for a total of 55 on the weekend. Brockport's scrappy mentality worked to their advantage, picking up 21 points off of forced turnovers and adding 17 points on fast break opportunities.
Brockport continues their home stand this Tuesday as they are set to take on Rochester Institute of Technology at 6 p.m. for their fourth game of the season.
