Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Brockport Drops Intense Game Against Lakers

OSWEGO, N.Y.—The College at Brockport men's basketball team came out on the wrong end of a big battle against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe Oswego State on Saturday, losing by a score of 73-63. With the outcome the Golden Eagles now sport a 3-2 overall record and conference mark of 1-1, while the Lakers sit at 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in SUNYAC play.

The Green and Gold stumbled out of the gate, quickly falling behind 12-5 in the initial three minutes of play. However, two made free throws by Justin Summers and a three pointer by Josh Nelson cut the deficit to two. A made layup by Summers and a Chris Atkinson made jumper from behind the arc evened up the score at 15-15 at the 14:28 mark. The Lakers pushed back out to a five-point lead, but the Green and Gold remained persistent, using layups by Summers and Tyler Collins to cut the score to one, before two made Devante Hagins free-throws evened up the score at the 5:03 mark. Both teams took turns trading leads the remainder of the first half, and Brockport headed into the break down 38-35.

Summers and Hagins were an impressive tandem, scoring a combined 20 points, while grabbing ten rebounds. Atkinson contributed two important three-pointers to give him six points in the half.

Brockport was unable to put the ball in the hoop in the second half, scoring only two points in the initial 6:18 of the frame. The deficit ballooned to ten at the 12:41 mark, but the Green and Gold were not going away easy. A Hagins layup was followed up by an Atkinson three and Summers bucket that cut the score to 48-45. A couple of minutes later Summers tied the game up at 50-50 with a lay-in. Unfortunately, that was as close as the team got as the Lakers caught fire down the stretch.

Summers finished the game with 21 points, eight rebounds and six blocks. Hagins knocked in 18 points of his own and recorded back-to-back games with 16 rebounds, while contributed three steals and one block.

Brockport remains on the road on Tuesday, Dec. 4 as they head to Geneva, N.Y. to battle Hobart College at 7 p.m.
