Brockport picks up first conference win against Oswego 57-43

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The College at Brockport capped off their weekend on the road Saturday against Oswego State, picking up a much-needed win against the Lakers 57-43. The team improves to 3-4 on the season, and 1-1 in conference play.

The Golden Eagles got off to a great start offensively in the first half, leading the Lakers 29-24 at the buzzer with two left to play. Bailey Pratt and Emily Nestler were the leading forces for the Green and Gold. Pratt put up eight points while shooting 50% from both the perimeter and in the paint with Nestler not falling far behind with six points and an assist. Much of Brockport's success in the first half came from their strength off the boards, collectively grabbing 28 rebounds, 18 of which were on Oswego's half of the court. Emily Merrill accounted for six of those rebounds herself. Despite some outliers, the Golden Eagles put up a collective fight against the Lakers in the first half, hoping to carry that momentum over into the final 20.

Coming back from the half Brockport took advantage of the Lakers right off the bat, picking up a break away opportunity by Nestler on a turnover to start the quarter. The Golden Eagles hot start allowed them to gain the largest lead by either team on the day. With the Lakers looking tired, the Green and Gold were able to control of pace of the game, securing a 11-point lead through the 3rd.

The trio of Merril, Nestler, and Pratt were unstoppable against the Lakers on both sides of the ball. Pratt led the Golden Eagles on the day with a powerhouse performance from the perimeter. The junior put up 17 points and three rebounds while completing 5-9 from outside the circle. Nestler followed suit, adding 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a block on the afternoon. Merrill joined Nestler under the basket, picking up 12 rebounds, many of which allowed the Golden Eagles second chance opportunities.

The Golden Eagles continue their efforts on the road Tuesday against the University of Rochester at 6 p.m.
