ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team fired on all cylinders Tuesday night, but ultimately saw defeat by the University of Rochester 61-44. With this loss, the team falls to 3-5 on the season.
A first half plagued by turnovers made for an interesting matchup between the Golden Eagles and the Yellow Jackets. Despite struggling to hold on to the ball, the Green and Gold were able to capitalize on some beautiful opportunities within the circle as well as from the perimeter, allowing them to outscore the Yellow Jackets in both quarters, putting them up 31-26 at the half.
The guard trio of
Chelsea Henry,
Bailey Pratt, and
Julianna Taylor ran the pace of the game for Brockport, collectively accounting for 22 of the teams 31 points. Pratt's strong ability to execute from the perimeter continues to show face from game to game, as the junior sank both attempts from the outside. The Golden Eagles continued to use their depth to their advantage, adding 13 points from the bench.
Brockport's defense was essential in the third quarter as the opportunity for offense was small. The Golden Eagles only put up seven but were able to hold off the Yellow Jackets, leading 38-37 with 10 minutes to play. Senior
Emily Nestler demanded her territory under the basket, collecting seven rebounds and two blocks, allowing the Green and Gold to execute accordingly.
The Yellow Jackets took advantage of the perimeter in the fourth, allowing them to go on an 8-0 run and secure their largest lead of the night from the start. Now working back from a deficit, the Golden Eagles were able to put up six, however not enough to regain their lead. Henry lead the team on the night, picking up 12 points, two rebounds, and an assist, followed closely by
Allison Chiera who put up eight points and five rebounds.
The Golden Eagles take their efforts back home for their final matchups before the holiday, starting with Plattsburgh on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
