OSWEGO, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's basketball team won their 13th State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game on Friday, as they held off Oswego State for a 69-67 win. The Golden Eagles now hold a 18-6 overall record and a 13-4 SUNYAC mark and with the loss, the Lakers fall to 12-12 on the year and 9-8 in conference play.
The Green and Gold never trailed in this contest as a 5-0 lead in the opening 1:30 allowed them to establish control early. The Lakers fought back to within three points at the 12:13 mark, but three-point buckets by
Jon Carnegie and
Dwayne Daniel, followed by a made free throw by
Michael O'Hara gave Brockport its first double-digit lead of the game. Eight first half points by
Justin Summers and
Hamed Shamseldin helped the team to a 34-23 lead at the break.
The Golden Eagles maintained an advantage in the opening minutes of the second frame, but Oswego was not going away easy and cut the deficit to two points at the 07:11 mark. However, buckets by
Tyler Collins, Shamseldin and Summers helped expand the lead back to 10 points with 4:16 left, and that proved to be enough as Brockport held on for an important SUNYAC victory.
Summers led the way in scoring with 21 points, while Shamseldin contributed 13 points of his own along with seven assists and six rebounds. The bench was led by 18 combined points by Collins (10) and O'Hara (8).
The Green and Gold will wrap up regular season play Saturday Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. when they travel to SUNY Cortland for a SUNYAC game that will decided the number 2 seed in the conference.
