KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's lacrosse team storms past Keuka College Saturday afternoon, winning by a score of 11-6. The Golden Eagles improve to 2-2 on the year, where the Wolves drop to 2-1.
Brockport trailed, as Keuka took a one goal advantage early in the opening quarter. The Golden Eagles answer minutes later on a man-up opportunity to tie the game up at 1-1.
Jake Recor received a pass from
Brad Sovocool to have a one-on-one with the visiting goalie. Recor then ripped a shot that snuck past the keeper on the near post. The Green and Gold kept things going as they extended their lead to 3-1, on a pair of goals from
Colton Oliver and
Liam O'Connor.
The Golden Eagles struggled in the second quarter, as Keuka notched back-to-back goals to tie the score at 3-3. Brockport battled back and strung together three straight goals to pull ahead 6-3. Zack Cook was the first to cash-in on the three-goal run, as he smoked his shot high past the Keuka goalie. Recor added the next two goals for the Golden Eagles, as he deked out a defender to have an uncontested shot which he converted for the first, while the second was on a quick catch-and-shoot into the back of the net. Brockport held the Wolves off the score sheet for remainder of the quarter to keep the same score heading into the halftime break.
Brockport came out hot in the third quarter notching two goals to from O'Connor and
Nick Daigle to post an 8-3 advantage. The Golden Eagles defense locked down only allowing four shots on frame and causing six turnovers. With a last-minute goal from Keuka, the Green and Gold held onto an 8-4 lead going into the final frame.
The offense for the Golden Eagles finished the game strong tacking on three consecutive goals from Recor, O'Connor and
Corey Choberka, to pull away 11-4. Brockport suffered in the final minutes of the contest as the Wolves tallied a pair of goals, but the gap was too large to mount a comeback, as Brockport held onto the victory.
As a team, Brockport overwhelmed Keuka, with an edge in shots (41-16), shots on goal (25-11), ground balls (43-28) and face offs (12-8).
Recor finished the game with four goals, where O'Connor added three. Choberka contributed a goal and a pair of assists, where
Billy Coppola handed out two assists. Steve Gurin and
Joe Chiarmonte led the defense with three caused turnovers a piece, and a collective 12 ground balls.
Dallas Meyers stood tall in the net today completing the full 60 minutes between the pipes, and racking up five saves.
The Golden Eagles stay on the road for their next match up against St. John Fisher on Wednesday, Mar. 14, with the game set to start at 4 p.m.
