BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team extended their winning streak to five straight on Saturday afternoon with a dominant 23-2 victory over SUNY Potsdam. The Golden Eagles are now 6-7 on the season, and rank second in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) standings with a 5-1 mark.
The scoring onslaught did not take long to get started in this game, as the Green and Gold notched eight goals in the first 4:39 of play.
Sara Grapevine and
Hannah Cullen each scored two, while
Heather Conklin,
Jade Williams,
Victoria Thompson, and
Nikki Nolan all added a goal apiece.
After the Bears got on the board with a goal of their own, the Golden Eagle offense got rolling again, scoring another four straight on tallies from Thompson, Grapevine, Williams, and
Dana Kiselica. Potsdam was able to register one more of their own, but after another goal from Kiselica and
Andrea Zlinsky's first of the game, Brockport was able to carry a 14-2 lead into the half.
The 14 first half goals are the most the Golden Eagles have scored in a half since April 23, 2016 when they registered 14 in the first half of a game against SUNY New Paltz.
It was much of the same in the second half, as the Golden Eagles got the scoring started just :11 seconds into the frame on
Nikki Nolan's second goal of the game, and the season. Cullen and Grapevine followed her up with their third and fourth goals of the game, respectively, before
Taylor Thomas tallied two straight to increase the lead to 19-2.
Conklin brought the scoring number to 20 with her team-leading 30th goal of the season minutes later, before Williams (2) and Thomas combined for the last three goals to bring the score to its eventual final, 23-2.
Grapevine and Williams led the team with four goals apiece, while Cullen and Thomas each recorded hat tricks as well.
Jillian Babinsky was a recorded eight draw controls on the day, helping the Golden Eagles outpace the Bears 21-6 in that category.
Sarah Brown played the entire 60 minutes in net, recording three saves while giving up just two goals to earn her sixth win of the season.
The Green and Gold will hit the road on Tuesday when they travel to SUNYAC rival Cortland for a potential first place matchup.
