Game Notes

The two teams met this time last year for the 2017 season opener, the Golden Eagles making a statement on what would later be a record-breaking season, taking down the then ranked No. 14 Hobart Statesmen, 34-20.

The Green and Gold remained dominant on the offensive end behind the leadership of QB
Joe Germinerio, who recorded 68 yards on the ground, 360 passing yards, and a touchdown. Germinerio led the team to victory with help from running back
Justin Morrison who led the rushing category with 169 yards and two touchdowns. On the receiving end,
DaQuan Hubbard held his own, collecting 158 yards on five catches in addition to
Joseph Ortiz who notched 52 yards in six catches.

Hobart kept the game competitive through the end of the third quarter keeping the deficit to seven but couldn't break through the Golden Eagles defense. Defensively,
Rashad Baker and
Jake O'Connell combined for 13 tackles, ranking first and second on the team.

After a standout undefeated season, the Golden Eagles are looking to keep the momentum going with the return of a number of key players, including pre-season All-Americans
Joe Germinerio,
Jake O'Connell,
Austin Dean, and
Justin Morrison. The team looks to make a return to the Final Four of the NCAA Championships, starting with an opening weekend win.

Despite being nationally ranked at the beginning of their season, the Statesmen's 7-3 overall record wasn't enough to secure them a spot in the post season. However, it was the team's 10th consecutive winning season, the longest streak in the program's 124-season history. The Statesmen graduated 18 seniors and are looking to pick things back up this season under the direction of their upperclassmen as well as their new faces.

The Golden Eagles will return to Bob Boozer Field again on Sept. 15 against St. Lawrence University at 1 p.m. for their annual Homecoming weekend.
