ROCHESTER, N.Y.- The College at Brockport women's soccer team completed the weekend sweep Saturday afternoon by beating New England College 2-0. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season while the Pilgrims fall to 0-1.
Â
Both teams came out with energy Saturday afternoon which lead to a defensive battle early on. Very little offense came in the first 25 minutes which lead to a stoppage in play due to excessive heat. Play began to slow down towards the end of the first half until a push in oppositions box left Brockport with a penalty kick in the 35
th minute of the first half. The P.K. was awarded to Maddie Siclair, who seized the opportunity, beating the opponent's goaltender in the bottom right corner, lifting the Golden Eagles 1-0.
Â
At the beginning of the second half, play began to speed up again, but this time with Brockport in the driver's seat. The Green and Gold began their offensive dominance we saw less than 24 hours ago in their win over Utica. It didn't take long before the Brockport saw the scoresheet again, when
Krista Statt placed a beautiful pass across the box that was met by a laser beam of a shot by
Olivia Kuter, tucked away nicely in the top right corner of the net.
Â
The rest of the half was dominated by the Brockport offense, adding 11 more shots on cage before the end of the game, finishing with 25 on the day.
Â
The women's soccer team will have a nice layoff as they're back in action Saturday, Sept. 8 on the road at Houghton College.
