SCRANTON, PA. – The College at Brockport women's volleyball team put on strong performances on day one of the 2018 Scranton Invitational. After a tough 3-2 loss to Eastern University the Golden Eagles battled back to earn their first win of the season, 3-2 over University of Pitt-Bradford.
Game One vs. Eastern University: L, 3-2 (23-25, 28-26, 20-25, 25-21, 10-15)

Elena Grossman put pressure on Eastern University at 24-23.
The second frame saw more of the same when the score was tied 18-18 and both teams proceeded to trade leads until Brockport tallied back-to-back points after a 26-26 tie. After dropping the third set, the Green and Gold were consistent in their attack and used three straight points at the end of the frame to take the set 25-21.
Both teams were almost tied in almost every category. Brockport had 60 kills, seven blocks, 56 assists and 78 digs.
Meaghan Mastro led the way with 18 kills, Fox finished with 15 and Luce tallied 13. Luce led the team with five blocks and
Elena Grossman recorded four.
Emily Orminski had 51 assists and
Maddy Taylor nabbed 22 digs.
Game Two vs. University of Pitt-Bradford: W, 3-2 (22-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-13, 15-12)
The green and gold found themselves in a 2-0 hole heading into the third set, after two nail biting finishes. The third and fourth set showed just how impressive this squad can be this season as they won back-to-back sets to tie it up at 2-2. The Golden Eagles completed the come back with a hard fought, 15-12, victory in the fifth set, earning themselves a split on the day.
Brockport continues the Scranton Invitational on Saturday, Sep. 1 when they face off against the University of Scranton at 10:30 a.m. and Misericordia University at 2:30 p.m.
