ALFRED, N.Y.—The College at Brockport women's volleyball team made quick work of Alfred University, winning in straight sets 3-0. With the victory, the Golden Eagles move to 5-5 on the year, while the Saxons remain winless at 0-9.
The first set saw Alfred take a quick 2-0 lead, but a kill by
Alexi Hamilton and an attacking error saw Brockport tie the set and then claim a 3-2 lead on another Hamilton kill. The Saxons kept it close at 10-10, until the Green and Gold went on a 15-7 run the rest of the way to take the first set.
The Golden Eagles continued that momentum in the next frame as they grabbed the lead at 2-1 and didn't let it go the rest of the way. The Saxons continued to fight back, pushing the deficit to 2-3 points, but each time Brockport pushed back with their own run of 4-5 points that kept them in control. The Green and Gold kept their foot on the pedal in the third and final set, jumping to a 3-0 lead that they, once again, would not let go of. The team busted the set wide open however when they exploded for a 15-2 run that gave them a 20-7 advantage. Despite the Saxons 10-5 run, Brockport walked out victorious.
Elena Grossman,
Lindsey Luce,
Laiken Fox and Hamilton all finished with seven kills.
Maddy Taylor led the way with nine digs as
Shelby Budnick and
Christa Mickol contributed four a piece.
Emily Orminski finished with 28 assists. As a team, the Golden Eagles led in kills (32-16), assists (31-16) and aces (9-3)
The Green and Gold head to Clarkson University, where they will compete in the Clarkson Invitational. The competition will kick-off on Saturday Sept. 15 when Brockport battles Susquehanna University at 3 p.m.
